Choice of articles

Hi Eliza, Phoebe and Lucile,

We discussed on Wednesday in class that we will go through the Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology Volume 58, Issue 6 to Issue 8 (April -June 2007).

We knew that the prime objective in each research is to justify the research objective, which is to “answer the gap in knowledge”. Eliza and Phoebe both had proposed a few articles. I have more interest in the first one proposed by Eliza.

Vol. 58 issue 7 - Google scholar citations and google web/url citations: A multi-discipline exploratory analysis (p. 1055-1065) – is to answer the research question of whether there is any correlation between online citations by Google scholar and google web/url vs traditional authoritative citations by reputable printed journals. The research question is current and controversial. It also has practical significance especially to researchers, so I would vote for choosing this one.

If you have no objection, we could start tomorrow.

Clara

Hi Clara, Lucile and Eliza,

I am also interested in reading the article chosen by Clara. I agree with Clara that the research question is current; and as a student of library science, it is worthwhile for us to know more about the recent development of citations.

Hi Clara, Eliza & Phoebe,

I also agree with Clara's suggestion. You know, before taking this course, I really have no idea on Google scholar. So, I am also quite interested in knowing more about it.

Dear Eliza, Phoebe and Lucile,

I have added a link to the article. We need the address the following questions :

What is the problem for the study?
What procedures did the experimenter use for the study?
What were the major conclusions for the study?
How would you classify the study, according to the six types of research studies we looked at in this lesson.
